李凖的《黄河东流去》再现了黄泛区人民在大迁徙中所经历的深重灾难和可歌可泣的斗争史实,歌颂了中国人民坚忍不拔的生活意志、对爱情的执着追求、对传统道德的坚守、对故土的热爱,歌颂了中国农民勤劳、勇敢、淳朴、善良等优秀品质和刻苦耐劳、团结互助、舍己为人的精神,揭露、批判了国民党当局的残忍、黑暗和腐败以及与侵略者狼狈为奸,揭示了中国农民由来已久的沉重的精神负担,表达了作家对中国传统文化的辩证思考。小说人物为数众多且均为平凡人物,注重多方面地刻画人物,结构精妙,情节曲折有致、波澜起伏,语言朴素、简练、通俗、流畅、生动、活泼,民族色彩强烈;但也存在着人物形象观念化、概念化的倾向和塑造人物形象的笔力不够集中等缺憾。

Li Zhun＇ s The Huangle River Flows Eastwards reproduces the historical fact of how the people in the flood area along the Huangle River have experienced extreme misfortunes and their heroic struggle during the grand migration. In the novel, the author extols the Chinese people＇ s indomitable will of life, their persistent pur- suit of love, their adherence to traditional morality, their love for their homeland, eulogizes the Chinese farmers＇ excellent quality such as diligence, bravery, honesty and kindness as well as their holy spirit like hard-working, solidarity and self-sacrifice. Moreover, the novel also exposes and criticizes the Kuomintang authority＇ s cruelty, darkness, corruption and collusion with the aggressor, and reveals the longstanding spiritual burden on the Chinese farmers, thus reflecting the author＇ s dialectical reflection on traditional Chinese culture. With a great many of characters who are tinguished language mostly ordinary people, the novel focuses on delineating characters in multiple ways and is dis- for its exquisite structure, intricate plot, as well as plain, concise, popular, smooth, lively and vibrant with a strong ethic color. However, there are still in the novel the defects that some characters tend to be ideationalized and conceptualized while some other characters are not portrayed in a concerted and concentrated manner.
