On the Influence of Singapore Bilingual Education on Chinese Dialect——A Survey of the Use of Chinese Dialects in Everyday Conversation among Singaporean Chinese

摘要近40年来新加坡华人日常交际中以汉语方言为主的语言传统发生了巨大变化,无论是家庭、学校或社会语用环境中最常讲方言的华族学生比例几乎都降到谷底,不到1%。调查发现,对汉语方言造成如此大影响的主要因素是双语教育制度中的双语教育目标、双语教育模式、英华双语运动以及华族家长和学生对待方言的态度。 Over the past 40 years Singaporean Chinese have completely changed their language use and now less than 1% of the students speak Chinese dialects in families, societies or schools. The study reveals that it is due to the aim, models and movements of the bilingual education and language attitude that Chinese dialect speakers decline dramatically.
