Through a layer-by-layer analysis of the piano accompaniment of ＂The Sleeping Beauty＂ which is a traditional lieder, ＂Encounter＂ which is a modern pop song and ＂February＂ which is a pentatonic song, a conclusion is reached as fol-lows ： the piano accompaniment has distinctive features in aspects like types of harmony and the expressive power of harmo- ny. By means of a tone-to-tone relationship, a systematic, hierarchical, integral and interrelated sound structure eventually emerges with harmony as a unifying thread.
