Distance Learning based on the Internet is a h ot research area in current Internet application field. Courseware publishing and organization is one of its crucial technologies. After introducing eXtensible Ma rkup Language (XML), this paper presents a synchronized multimedia courseware pu blishing system based on XML. The system organizes the education resource with S ynchronization Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) derived from XML and publi shes the courseware in the form of HTML+synchronization control, which makes the courseware fit the international standard and integrate with HTML.
