由于唐宋实施富国安民和开放政策,为当时的政治、经济和文化的快速发展打下了扎实的基础,唐宋成为中国历史上最为兴盛的时期。在此基础上形成的休闲文化独具特色,且丰富多彩。唐代的茶文化、投壶、双陆、围棋和弹棋、饮酒、斗鸡、面戏、戏绳、马球、樗蒲等诸多休闲方式在满足人们的心理需求、调节人与人之间的关系、维持社会稳定和促进社会的和谐发展等方面都起到了非常重要的作用。休闲生活形式更加多样,内容更加丰富多彩的宋代茶艺、蹴鞠、勾栏、瓦舍、象棋、瓷器以及茶具欣赏成为人们日常休闲活动的主要内容,加之旅游业的快速发展,都极大地促进了当时的经济发展。

The Tang and Song Dynasties witnessed the great progress in the political, economic and cultural development due to the long stability of the society and open door policy. The two dynasties had their hey- day of the Chinese history. The unique and diverse leisure cultures came into being during this period, such as the tea culture, pot-pitching game, backgammon, the game of go, Chinese checker （a board game for two players, pieces move according to throws of the dice）, alcoholic drinking, cock-fighting, jujitsu, acrobatics, polo, and Chupu Game （an ancient gambling game）. They play a vital role in mediating the in- terpersonal relationship, maintaining the social stability and meeting the psychological needs of people. The more colorful and diverse leisure activities in the Song Dynasty, for example, the tea ceremony, Cu Ju Game （an ancient game of kicking a bail）, playhouse, Chinese chess, and the appreciation of china and tea sets and the scale tourism economy give an impetus to the development of the whole economy. Further- more, the leisure tourism has far-reaching influences on the national revenue and local public finance and the improvement in the production level and living standards of people.
