论夏译《古屋杂忆》之“讹”

On "Mistranslation" in The Old Manse Translated by Xia ji-an

夏济安译作在译界享有较高声誉和地位,其中《古屋杂忆》的译文在备受推崇的同时,也存在失真和走样的地方。译文里存在两类的讹,一类是对译文产生荒唐或有害效果的无心之失,另一类则是译者明知故犯的有意之过。因此在研习名家译作时,我们要学会批判地继承,切忌不加选择的全盘接受。

Xia Ji - an＇s translation enjoys a high reputation. Among his many translated works, The Old Manse has been greatly praised, while there also exist different forms of mistranslation in the translated version. Close reading re- veals two types of mistranslation, i.e. careless errors and creative betrayal, the former absurd and harmful while the later disclosing the translator＇s subjectivity. Therefore, it is proposed that in the study of famous translation, we must learn with critical thinking and avoid acceptance without choice.
