版本信息是读者选择图书的重要依据。在著录版本信息时,编目人员可以将版本的记录性信息著录在205字段,将说明图书内容特点和变更的信息著录在200字段;在著录版次信息时,编目人员可以在905字段著录年代号,以区分图书的不同版次;在著录译著版本信息时,编目人员可以在200字段著录原版本信息作为题名说明。此外,对于无版本信息和版本信息不一致的图书,编目人员应该从方便读者的角度出发,科学合理地进行著录。
