Berlin State Opera's new production of the Ring Cycle(to be completed during the bicentennial of Wager's birth in 2013) is not an appealing work.The earlier Rheingold and Walkure directed by Guy Casiers lost many a fan among the audience.Siegfried premiered at the Schiller Theater with lukewarm support from the Staatskapelle Berlin under the baton of Daniel Barenboim on early October.Projections were dazzling,but didn't match the story.And performances by Lance Ryan(as Siegfried),Peter Bronder(as Mime),Juhu Uusitalo(as Wanderer/Wotan), Irene Theorin(as Brunnhilde) left much to be desired.
