Objective To investigate the number change of EPCs in peripheral blood of PTCL patients and its signifi- cance. Methods The relative number(RN) and absolute number(AN) of EPCs were determined by FCM method in 25 patients with PTCL-NOS and 10 normal controls. The change of EPCs in peripheral blood before and after treatment was ob- served, and the relation between this change and clinical character of patients analyzed. Results The number of EPCs in the peripheral blood of patients with PTCL-NOS before treatment was significantly higher than that in control group( all P 〈 0.01 ). The number of EPCs of PTCL-NOS patients after treatment was differently decreased compared with that before treatment( all P 〈 0.01 ). EPCs in effective group of PTCL-NOS initial treatment patients were lower than those in refracto- riness group. Pearson correlation analysis showed that there was positive correlation between the number of EPCs and LDH, 132-MG and IPI( Correlation coefficients were 0. 523, 0. 476, 0. 421, respectively; all P 〈 0.05 ). The survive curve had dif- ferencet of AN of EPCs between groups 〈 20 μL and 〉 20 μL before 60 weeks while without difference after 60 weeks. Conclusions EPCs may be correlated with progression of the disease in a certain degree. Dynamic observation with the level of EPCs may be used to evaluate the treatment outcomes and act as a prognostic marker for PTCL-NOS.
