旧红学家以《左传》为标准评点《红楼梦》，其观点源于金圣叹。《红楼梦》传承于《左传》主要表现在叙述场景安排、人物刻划和艺术表现手法等方面。

Former Hongloumeng scholars took the Zuo Commentary as their commentarial criterion. They owed their origin to Jin Shengtan. Hongloumeng was in common with the Zuo commentary mainly in scene, character, and artistry.
