程曈是明朝正德、嘉靖年间新安理学承先启后的重要代表人物，一生致力于弘扬朱子之学。所著《新安学系录》一书，不仅是第一部新安理学的“学案”性著作，也是一部维护朱子学的力作，对新安学派的经营有重大的贡献。该书收录了１０５位著名新安学者的传记资料以及言行、遗事，对徽州人物的研究和徽州文献的保存，均有重要意义。

ChengTong is a very important representative of Xin' An Idealistic Philosophy, who lived in Zheng De & JiaJing period of the Ming Dynasty. He had devoted himself to extending and promoting ZhuXi's academic creeds all his life. In his day, everyone regarded him as a scholar who had inherited his former master's theory and enlightened his successors. His work A Record of Xin' An Intellectual Origin and Inheritance had been greatly admired not only as the first of its kind concerning Xin' An Idealistic Philosophy but also as a book preserving ZhuXi's academic creeds. His work had been contributing to running Xin' An Scholarship very effectively. ChengTong collected 105 famous Xin' An scholars, which indicated very important valued to studying HuiZhou (Xin' An) personage and bibliographical studies.
