Zhang Ailin and Her Sense of Doom to the Modern Society

张爱玲属于中国现代为数甚少的具有末日意识的作家，她像２０世纪许多中国知识分子一样，已失去对中国传统赋予“历史”的价值意义的信任，不同的是，她不具有像他们那样对未来科学、技术、进步文明与乌托邦的信念，因而她的态度更为现代。

Zhang Ailin was one of the few writers with the sense of doom in the history of modern Chinese literature. As many other Chinese intellectuals, she no longer trusted in the values of history in a traditional way. And she went further, she did not trust the development of science and technology, the betterment of civilization and the Utopian idea to the future society, either. In this sense, she was closer to the modern consciousness.
