Cultural Traditions and Intellectual Standpoint

21世纪的中国拥有中国古代文化与五四新文化两种文化传统。在体认"国学热"有承继传统文化之功效的同时,也要警惕文化保守主义者的狭隘心态。五四新文化传统是中国在现代化进程中必须选择与确立的文化方向。在当下的中国语境中,我们要坚持以科学精神、民主观念为指导,理性整合两种文化传统,坚守知识分子底线,继续以学术介入社会生活,参与建设社会主义新文化。

In the 21st century,there are two cultural traditions in China—Ancient Chinese culture and May Fourth New Culture.When we recognize that 'Chinese Classics' inherits the functions of traditional culture,we also caution the narrow mentality of cultural conservatism.May Fourth new cultural tradition must be selected and established as the cultural direction in the process of China's modernization.In the today' context of China,we should adhere to the guidance of scientific spirit and democratic concept,rationally integrate the two cultural traditions,hold the intellectual bottom line,continue to involve social life through academic studies,and participate in the construction of socialist new culture.
