运河文化的传承是聊城大学图书馆的义务与责任。聊城大学图书馆运河文献建设形成了三大特色:运河文献资料、影音像实物资料和运河文化数据库,并在此基础上建立了图书馆运河文化的研究基地与宣传基地,成为运河文化的信息中心。
