The Prevalence of Cigarette Smoking Habit among 1541 Workers in Guangzhou Silk and Flax Spinning Mill

广州某绢麻厂工人吸烟情况1987年12月的调查结果表明,男性工人吸烟率为63.99％。女性为0.52％。吸烟率的高低与文化程度呈反比,高文化程度的工人吸烟率较低,反之低文化程度的工人吸烟率较高。大多数男性工人开始吸烟年龄为15～21岁,而女性工人一般在40岁以后。日均吸烟量:男性工人大多数为8～25支,女性为5支左右。男性工人戒烟率为6.14％,其原因主要是疾病和经济条件。因此,加强宣传吸烟的危害及提倡在工作场所禁止吸烟,对于降低国民吸烟率是十分必要的。

The result of a survey on prevalence of cigarette smoking habit among 1676 workers is presented,91.95% of the total workers in this mill were interviewed.The proportion of current cigarette smokers among workers was 63.99% for males and 0.52% for females.A high prevalence of smoking was observed among persons with low education level.A low prevalence was found among persons with high education level.Most of the male smokers started smoking since 15～21 years old while the female smokers started usually after 40 years of age.Daily consumption in male smokers is 8～25 cigarettes,in females 5 cigarettes.Among current smokers and ex-smokers combined the proportion of ex-smokers who had given up smoking for at least one year was 6.14% in males.The main causes of stopping smoking was related to illness and expense of smoking.In order to reduce the people's smoking rate,it is important to carry on an active propaganda against somking and to prohibit workers from smoking at the worksite.
