Aluminum alloy A6061 and low carbon steel Q235 sheets were welded using a technique of thermal compensation resistance spot welding. The effects of welding current and electrode pressure on the nugget size and tensile shear strength of the joint were investigated, the interfacial mierostrueture was observed and the feature and distribution of the interracial reactant were analyzed. The results indicate the joint of aluminum alloy A6061 and low carbon steel Q235 with larger nugget and higher tensile shear strength are obtained under relatively low welding current by thermal compensation resistance spot welding method. Both the tensile shear strength and nugget diameter increased with the increasing of welding current and electrode pressure. The joint with the maximum tensile shear load of 4. 25 kN without splash is obtained at the condition of 17.5 kA welding current. Intermetallie layer mainly composed of Fe2Al5 and FeAl3 is formed at the interface of aluminum alloy and steel.
