政治竞选辩论中情态系统的人际功能分析

On the Interpersonal Functions of Modality in the Political Election Debate

在系统功能语言学中,情态是体现人际意义的语气系统中的一个子系统,是表现人际功能的手段之一。本文运用Halliday系统功能语法中人际功能理论为分析依据,拟以2004年美国总统竞选中布什与克里之间的第一场电视辩论为文本进行了情态分析,揭示两位总统候选人在辩论过程中如何选用合适情态词以调节和听话者的关系,从而最终实现其在辩论中阐明立场、抨击对方和说服选民的人际功能。

In system-functional linguistics,modality serves as the subsystem to realize interpersonal functions in the mood system.By analyzing the first televised political debate in terms of modality between Bush and Kerry in 2004,this paper is designed to reveal the fact that the two candidate both place great emphasis on the use of modality in attempt to adjust the relationship with their listeners,which contributes to achieve interpersonal functions of clarifying stands,criticizing the opponent and eventually succeeding in persuading voters.
