Homonym is a very important and common linguistic phenomenon, which is also one of the difficulties in learning languages. This paper conducts a contrastive analysis of the classification, causes of formation and rhetorical functions of both English and Chinese homonyms for the purpose of further revealing their similarities and differences, helping readers better un- derstand and master them and making them play a big and active role in the use of English and Chinese languages.
