A Further Discussion on the New Theory of A Dream of Red Mansions and the Historical Reflection on Redology:LIU Mengxi's Study on A Dream of Red Mansions——The Twelfth Summary of Redology by Contemporary Scholars

刘梦溪《红楼梦》研究的代表性著作有《红楼梦新论》、《红楼梦与百年中国》(《红学》的增订版)、《牡丹亭与红楼梦》等。刘梦溪的《红楼梦》研究大致可以划分两个阶段:一是《红楼梦新论》阶段,二是《红学》阶段。刘梦溪《红楼梦》研究的第一阶段,主要是尝试运用文艺学基本理论研究文学作品,为了这一实用目的,他选择了当时颇为流行的批评理论和方法,虽不免机械和狭隘,但研究格局很大;刘梦溪《红楼梦》研究的第二阶段,则重新检讨红学的历史和现状,能够从学术出发,分流梳脉,评短论长,豁然贯通,视野更开阔了,思想更融通了。并且,刘梦溪的《红楼梦》文化研究呈现出一种"文化托命"的学术使命感。

LIU Mengxi＇ s representative works of Redology are The New Theory of A Dream of Red Mansions, A Dream of Red Mansions and Chinese Redology of One Hundred Years （Redology, revised edition） , and The Peony Pavilion and A Dream of Red Mansions, etc. LIU Mengxi＇ s Redology study is divided into two stages, the first of which reflect in The New Theory of A Dream of Red Mansions, and the second in Redology（ revised edition）. The first stage, LIU Mengxi chose a critical theory which was designed for a specific approach to study literature, and this approach had a great potential space for the development of Redology in spite of its technical defect. The sec- ond stage, LIU Mengxi took hold in academic theory, which organically combined a wide field of vision with com- prehensive thoughts, to summarize his points and comment on the views of others and thus to review the history and status of Redology. Last but not the least, LIU Mengxi shouldered the responsibility of culture inheritance, and the sense of mission has infused into his study and promoted the progress of Redology.
