Normalization of Sino-Japan Diplomatic Relations and Yutaro Takeyama: his activities and views

竹山祐太郎是中日复交前主张两国友好的日本阁僚级保守政治家中的代表性人物,他为两国经济文化交流活动,尤其是贸易活动的深入发展,以及中日关系正常化做出了重要贡献;然竹山日本政治家的身份从根本上规定了其对华立场的精神原则;比起同为亚洲人的种族连带和对华亲近感,主要还在于中国对日本增进国家利益所具重要性的认识,也正是这个基于现实主义的对华观,从根本上制约了竹山对华交流活动的特质。

Yutaro Takeyama is an import Japanese cabinet-level politician that contributed significantly towards the normalization of Sino-Japan diplomatic relations post-1945. However, as a Japanese politician his views and work regarding China were derived more out of consideration of Japan＇s national interests, particularly that of market enlargement and national security, than out of a sense of affinity between the two peoples on the basis of a common Asian race or cultural heritage. Takeyama＇s views on China and his diplomatic activities towards China must be seen in this light to be fully grasped.
