机顶盒作为新一代有线电视网的最重要的用户接入设备；其功能已经从简单的多频道调谐和数字信息分流到如今的提供用户全面的信息服务及交互操作，如 Ｉｎｔｅｒｎｅｔ ＷＷＷ 浏览、视频点播、收发 Ｅｍａｉｌ、股票服务等。机顶盒的设计主要涉及的是硬件和软件两大部分，文中重点介绍我们开发的应用于 ＣＭ－ＳＴＢ（Ｃａｂｌｅ Ｍｏｄｅｍ Ｓｅｔ－ｔｏｐ Ｂｏｘ）的实时操作系统（ＲＴＯＳ）。

STB (Set Top Box) now becomes one of the most important user-interface devices.Its functions have updated from a simple multi-frequency tuner into an interactive information service platform. General network information service such as internet WWW, Video on Demand, Email and Stock Exchanging Service are well provided to fulfill the need of real application. The design of STB involves hardware and software. This paper concerns the software, and discusses the RTOS (Real time Operation System), implemented by us, on CM-STB (Cable Medem Set-Top Box) in detail.
