My Impression of Jin Xiang's ″A Glimpse of Taklamakan″ for Chinese Orchestra

音乐创作经典作品之问世,始终是人们追寻破解的谜团。人类智慧的极限何以能创作出具有永恒的、不朽的音乐,震撼着超越国界的不同地域民族、不同政治信仰、不同审美观念的人们,其中,规律性现象之一,是人生和音乐密不可分的因果关系。金湘1985年开始创作的《塔克拉玛干掠影》,是我国大型民族管弦乐作品中一部经典之作。

The origin of a music masterpiece is like a puzzle that we always try to resolve.Human wisdom has been used to its most extreme in order to create eternal music,which intoxicates all the people of various regions,nationalities,political beliefs and aesthetic appreciation.One of the most representative phenomena is the inseparable causal relationship between human life and music.Jin Xiang's ″ A Glimpse of Taklamakan″ was composed in 1985,and is now one of the masterpieces for Chinese orchestra in China.Undoubtedly,there is causal relationship between the sense of history,profound implications and vicissitudes reflected in Jin Xiang's music and his rational thinking,philosophical views and technical capability that have been created throughout his life.However,only those composers who love mankind,their own nationality,and life,with great innovation and rich imagination,can produce such noble human spirit,colourful acoustics and charming music by making the best use of human voice and the sound of various musical instruments,and as a result,form the perfect sound beauty which brings us profound philosophical thinking and complete aesthetic enjoyment.And in this sense,Jin Xiang's music character is a combination of two extreme contrasts just like the dichotomy of cold and warm hues.The author believes that even if Jin Xiang had composed only one opera like his ″Wilderness″,he would still be a great composer in the history of contemporary Chinese music.But he has managed to transcend himself and go beyond the present age.According to a chronological list of his music works,he has so far composed 9 operas,2 musicals,12 symphonies and concertos,10 symphonic works for Chinese orchestra,18 chamber music works(for both Chinese and Western bands) and piano works,5 cantatas and symphonic song cycles,music for over 40 films and TV dramas,and dozens of choral songs and a cappella chorus and art songs.The majority of his compositions appeared during the 30 years since the 1980's,and the opus numbers of his complete works have reached over 100.The composer has composed such a great number of works with so diverfied subjects and forms,so extensive implications and techniques,all in high quality,that we can see that he is a hard-working,dedicated and creative man who has combined his life with music in his entire career.
