摘要
E. L. Doctorow' s "Billy Bathgate" subverts the stereotyped image of women. Based on Michel Foucault' s theory on power-discourse, the paper studies the marginalized women characters filtered through Billy' s male consciousness and finds that Billy' s male discourse embodies the double control of the patriarchal power over women' s body and discourse, while Doctorow skillfully recreates the women characters to subvert and deconstruct that patriarchal power hidden in the text. Meanwhile, the subjectivity and incredibility of the discursive world is manifest.
