The paper is based on the Narrative Distance Theory proposed by Wayne Clayson Booth,a famous American literary critic,in his masterpiece The Rhetoric of Fiction.Booth claims that the novel is a kind of narration by the 'implied author'.To exert impact on the assumed readers, the author should make use of many techniques, including his control of narrative distance. The paper analyzes the aims and ways to adjust the distance rendered by the translator when he faces children readers.Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper is the case of the paper.Based on the comparison between its two Chinese versions, the paper probes into the necessity and feasibility of using the Narrative Distance Theory in the translation of children's literature.
