With the development of large scale genomics, rapid advances in the high throughput and low cost sequencing technologies in recent years have enabled an increasing number of applications in life sciences. In this paper, we provide a snapshot of these new generation sequencing technologies. We also discuss some of the most important advances that the new sequencing technologies have brought to the field of forensic.
