Objective To investigate the relationship between the concentration of IL-1β and the severity of knee os- teoarthritis which detected by arthroscope, then look for the biochemical indicators which can indicate the severity of osteoarthritis. Methods 40 patients who received knee joint arthroscope treatment or prosthetic replacement for knee joint were selected. 11 patients with merely meniscus injury were divided into control group. 29 patients with knee OA were divided according the severity of knee osteoarthritis into three groups. Synovial fluid was extracted under aseptic condition and be measured. Results The concentrations of IL-β between control group and experimental group have significant difference (P 〈 0. 01 ), the difference among the different classifications of experimental group was also sig- nificant (P 〈 0. 01 ). The concentrations of IL-1β in knee synovial fluid of OA patients and the severity reflected by arthroscope were positively correlated ( r = 0. 887, P 〈 0. 01 ). Conclusions The concentrations of IL-1β in knee synovial fluid of OA patients and the severity reflected by arthroscope were positively correlated, and it could be biochemical indicator reflecting the severity of osteoarthritis.
