The Role of Context in English-Chinese Translation

翻译是在一定语境中发生的行为,语境在翻译中具有重要作用。众多学者对语境的性质与类别进行了研究,探讨了语境与翻译的关系。从众多的翻译实例可见,语境对翻译中词汇语义确定非常重要。译者在翻译实践中必须从语篇和文化的角度考虑语境的影响,实现翻译过程中对文化语境的顺应。

ranslation is a behavior occuring in a certain context, which plays an important role in transla- tion. Many scholars studied the nature and categories of context, explored the relationship between context and translation. Based on several E -C translation examples, context plays an important role in the determination of lexical semantics in translation, which is the most obvious function of context. In addition, context must also be considered from the point of view of discourse and culture in translation practice, translators should practice Text Translation Concept and adapt to the cultural context in the translation process.
