摘要
土山湾孤儿院是天主教耶稣会在上海市徐家汇开办的一所育婴机构,孤儿院收养被遗弃孤儿,向其传播宗教教理,并建立手工工场,向孤儿传授手工技艺,以培养其谋生能力。自1864年开办后,在一大批中外修士的艰苦努力下,孤儿院取得了蜚声中外的成绩,生产的工艺品在国内外赢得了广泛的赞誉。土山湾孤儿院在上海近现代文化史及教会教育史上都具有极为重要的地位及意义。
Tushanwan orphanage was an institution for raising children set up by Catholic society of Jesus in Shanghai, Xujiahui. It spread religious teachings for orphans, and passed on manual skills through building up manual workshops to prepare their life in the future. Since its founding in 1864, thanks to the missionaries dedicating to catholic enterprises, Tushanwan orphanage had become substantially well known whose handicrafts obtained worldwide applauds. Accordingly, Tushanwan orphanage played an important role in shanghai modern cultural history and educational history of religion.
