Oscar Wilde once said that we are all caught in irrigation ditches but there are always those who look up at the starry sky. Similarly, different writers may deal with the same theme in radically different ways. Both Chekhov and O. Henry are masters of short stories who are good at dealing with " small potatoes", but they have radically different writing styles. Chekhov' s "coldness" and O. Henry' s "warmth" are actually from their heart of hearts and from their world outlooks.
