Examining Nabokov’s Outlook of Literary Aesthetics from the Perspective of Nikolai Gogol

As a great writer who was born in Russia, studied in Great Britain and made a name for himself in Europe and America, Vladimir Nabokov had his noteworthy, unique, but confusing reviews of classic Russian literature. What was it that made his outlook of literature so different from the traditional outlook of Russian literary history？ What is the core of his outlook of literary aesthetics？ By means of analyzing his comments on the reviews of Gogol, this paper attempts to explore the approach and logic, and possible causes of his unique outlook of Russian literary aesthetics.
