Objective To establish atrial fibrillation (AF) model methodology by stimulating cervical vagua trunck on canine. Methods Bilateral cervical vago-sympathetic nerves from sixteen mongrel dogs were disassociated, exposed and stimulated. The dogs were divided into 3 groups, control group (n =4) which underwent rapid atial pacing (600 times/min) only. Right vagua trunck (RVT) group (n =6) which undertook high right atrial stimulation+right vagus nerve stimulation and Left vagua trunck (LVT) group (n = 6) which undetook high right atrial stimulation+the left vagus nerve stimulation. The heart rate and AF induction rate were measured in different stimulation intensity. Results The effect on AF inducibility. In control group, the induction rate of AF was significantly increased with S1S1 stimulation (47.62 %) com pared with S1S2 (9.52%) (P %0.05). In RVT group, the induction rate of AF was significantly increased with S1S1 stimulation (85.71%) compared with S1 82 (26. 98 %) (P d0.05). In LVT group, the induction rate of AF was significantly increased with S1S1 stimulation (64.29%) compared with S1S2 (19.05%) (P %0.05). Conclusion Unilateral cervical vagua trunck stimulation plus rapid atial pacing can successfully establish canine model of acute AF mediated by vagus nerve, vagus nerve stimulation significantly increase AF induction rate. The AF inducibility was higher by RVT than LVT stimulation.
