An introduction of the characteristics of barcode technology applied to Automatic fare collection system(AFC) for the Metro and LRT System at first time in China has been given in this paper. The general features of this system have reached international level of magnetic card system. It overcomes breakdown happened on mechanical system and is simple and fast for process. The price of the system is cheaper than that of imported machine. So it is a localized system fitted to domestic circumstnce for wide implementation.
