Interpreting Evans’ Proper Name Theory from a Contextual Perspective

摘要 本文从语境角度解读G.埃文斯的专名论,指出语境及语言的使用过程决定了专名的意义及专名的指称对象,进一步支持了专名指称从寻求内涵意义到寻求外部意义的路径转向。本文首先追溯G.埃文斯专名论提出的背景过程及G.埃文斯对前人专名论中缺乏语境考虑的批评。然后本文重点分析埃文斯的专名使用实践理论,并举例论证了语境对专名命名及其指称对象确定的重要意义。 This article interprets G. Evans' Proper Name Theory from the perspective of context. By proposing and defending that context and the use of language determine the meaning and the referent of proper names, this article further supports a transition from intemalism to externalism in the study of proper names. Specifically, it first traces the development of G. Evans' theory of proper names and reviews G. Evans' criticism of the lack of the consideration of context in previous theories. Then it focuses on the theory of proper-name-using practice proposed by G. Evans. Finally it exemplifies the importance of context on determining the meaning and the referent of proper names.
