Degrees of Lexicalization and the Routes of Heightening Chinese Lexemes in the Context of Conceptual Culture

语义复杂的概念用一个词来表示,即称为词化程度高;如果用词组来表示即称为词化程度低。词化程度高低的4个级别分别是单纯词、派生词、合成词和短语。本文探讨汉语观念文化方面词语词汇化程度的提高途径。

If a semantically-complicated notion can be expressed by a word, it is said to be of a higher degree of lexicali- zation; instead, if it has to be expressed by a phrase, it is of a lower degree of lexicalization. The scale of lexicalization rates covers monomorphemic word, derivative, compound and phrase. The present article discusses reasons for the differences of lexicalization degrees in Chinese and English in the context of conceptual cultures and the routes of lexicalization heightening in Chinese.
