越王差徐戈铭文释读

The Interpretation of the Inscription of the Ge-dagger Ax of King Chaixu of the Yue State

珍秦斋收藏的1件越王戈，已有好几位学者作过研究。由于戈铭较难通读，学者也各有解释，至今仍未取得一致的看法。笔者近来也对这件兵器作了些考察，撰成此小文，供大家参考。

The inscription of the ge-dagger ax of King Chaixu of the Yue State is rather difficult to completely decipher and interpret, and the scholars cannot make agreements on its meaning, so it is necessary to do further researches on its interpretation. This paper pointed out that the ＂Deju得居＂ and ＂Chaixu差徐＂ are both names of the kings of the Yue State, and the ＂Chaixu 差徐＂ cannot be interpreted as ＂to aid the Xu State＂. This ge-dagger ax was made for King Chaixu of the Yue State; the inscription noted that King Deju, a former king of the Yue State, had ordered to make a bronze qi-battle ax for him, and King Chaixu also imitated him and ordered to make this ge-dagger ax. Referring to the relevant historic literatures and the paleo-phonological and archaeological materials, this paper inferred that the Chaixu in this inscription would be the King Chuwuyu of the Yue State and Deju would be King Yi of the Yue State.
