As a historian who also dabbled in a wide range of academic disciplines, Dai Kuohui perceived Overseas Chinese issue in Southeast Asia as the ramifications of the disintegration of Pax Sinica and the formation of Pax Bratinnica. He pointed out that the so- called Overseas Chinese problem in Southeast Asia was legacy that used Chinese as a scapegoat to shift people＇ actually the vestige of West colonial s resentment away from the ruling class. This legacy still poisoned Southeast Asian countries＇ political and economic systems as well as their ethnic relationships after they attained independence. While he called for strict definition of ＂overseas Chinese＂ who should be distinct in terms of their adopted countries＇ citizenship, he supported their maintenance of their Chineseness in the context of muhiculturalism. He criticized ultra-nationalism that was once pervasive in Southeast Asia with the myth of ＂One Nation and One People＂, and he advocated the concept of ＂Paradoxical Dynamic Identity＂, with which all ethnic groups could enjoy ＂Self-help and Symbiosis＂.
