Imagery, Metaphor and English Teaching

认知科学观认为语言是具象的,思维是隐喻的,两者都有表象的成分。隐喻是语言具象性及思维隐喻性的表征。表象和隐喻思维在语言学习中有着重要作用。英语学习中培养运用隐喻思维,首先要丰富有关英语社会、文化、生活等表象,以丰富表象为基础理解隐喻、隐喻思维,以促进英语学习。

According to cognitive science, language is imagic, and thought is metaphorical, of which imagery is elemental. Metaphor represents the imagic property of language and metaphorical thought, therefore, they are important in language learning. With rich images related to English world, we can smoothly understand metaphor and develop metaphorical thought to improve English language learning.
