On the Prettiness of Qin Guans Ci Poetry

北宋词坛， 秦观词如幽花媚春， 自成馨逸， 张炎《词源》概括其词的特征为“婉美”。秦观词无论是深隐细微的幽婉， 还是轻柔低徊的哀婉， 或是淡雅蕴藉的含婉， 从抒情个性、审美意象和表现方式三者融汇， 均呈现出特有的婉美———他词的本质色调。秦观词虽婉美，然气格骨力失之柔弱。（ 一） 内容薄弱所致。（ 二） 性情柔弱所致。（ 三） 时风婉弱所致。秦观词为当行本色， 其词在婉美的同时带有纤柔的弱质，

In the Ci poetry circle of the Northern Song Dynasty, Qin Guans Ci poetry was well known for its elegance and subtleness. It was characterized as prettiness by Zhang Yan in “An Inquiry into Ci Poetry”. In his poems, Qin Guan expressed his delicate feelings and tender thoughts in a graceful and restrained way. Prettiness as the essential tone of his poems was reflected in his emotional conveyance, aesthetic imagos and expressive manners. It was but accompanied with mildness of style due to the poems' insufficient content, the poets frail disposition and the societys gentle custom. The exquisite and delicate tone make Qin Guans poems excellent but a bit regrettable imperfect.
