Objective To explore the role of quality circle on reduction of urinary tract infection (UTI) in patients performing inter- mittent self-catheterization (ISC) at home. Methods Totally, 116 patients with spinal cord injury were divided into a control group (54 cases), and an observation group (62 cases) according to their admission dates. The control group were routinely given health education about ISC. For comparison, a set of quality circle activities were carried out for the observation group:a team was estab- lished to take control of the activities; the team ran surveys and analyzed the causes of UTI; they set goals, formulated appropriate measures and implemented them. Results The incidence rate of UTI in the observation group (5 cases, 8.06%) were lower than that in the control group (14 cases, 25.93 %) 3 months after discharge, with significant difference between the 2 groups (P〈0.01). Conclusion The quality circle activities can reduce the incidence rate of UTI in patients performing ISC at home, and improve their quality of life.
