Chinese American Yuan Jin-mei＇ s novels pay special attention to the study of both Chinese and western cultures and touch upon the topics on the conversion of Chinese tradition to modern style. As a philosophical professor, she makes comparisons and contrasts between Chinese and western cultures with a calm mood, rational attitude and a sort of easy ridicule and hawking.
