科技论文摘要中情态动词的语境顺应性解读——一项基于语料库的研究

A Corpus-based Study on Contextual Adaptation of Modal Verbs in English Abstracts of Scientific Research Articles

学术语篇,尤其是科技类语篇必须以客观准确的方式表达观点和传递信息,这样才能体现科学研究的客观性和准确性。作者想要达到以上目的,增强其研究的可接受性,需要借用一定的语言策略。情态动词便是其中一种重要方式。本研究在自建小型语料库的基础上,分析了情态动词在科技论文英文摘要中的使用倾向,以维索尔伦的顺应论为理论基础解释了影响它们使用的具体语境因素,由此揭示了情态动词的使用在促使学术语言的表达更含蓄、委婉的情形下,是作者运用适度推测、缓和语气满足科技语篇客观性准确性的要求最终达到与读者互动的语用目的。

In academic discourses,especially in scientific discourses,it is often required to express and impart authors＇ views in an objective and accurate way so as to reflect the objectivity and accuracy of scientific researches.In fact,if authors want to achieve the above aims to enhance the acceptability of their researches,they need to borrow certain language strategies.The modal verb is an important way among them.On the basis of a self-built small corpus,this study analyzed the tendency of the use of modal verbs in the English Abstracts of the scientific articles,and Adaptation Theory is as the theoretical basis to explain the specific contextual factors that affect modals＇ use.Finally this paper concludes that modals are used to ease the mood to meet the objectivity and accuracy required by the scientific discourses,eventually to achieve the interaction with readers.
