In The Trespasser, Siegmund committed suicide because he disobeyed the traditional morality and became a ＂sinner＂ in his family. Under Lawrence＇ s pen, Siegmund himself, his wife and his lover together should be responsible for this tragedy, wheras they were not the true sinners. It was the human nature supressing and destroying, mental and physical splitting capitalist industrial civilization, the tradition of Vitoria times, the conservative social customs and money worship made Siegmund＇s death. On the bases of this tragedy, Lawrence expressed his doubt and resistance to the British society and also his full awareness of the modem ridiculous human lives.
