A Chinese-English Contrastive Study on Temporal Metaphor

就对时间的认知策略来说,汉语侧重客体参照,英语则侧重主体参照。以认知隐喻理论为背景,在大量搜集和整合跨语言时间隐喻表述的基础上,从共时角度对比汉英语言中时间隐喻的异同,指出了这种差异与民族之间不同的思维方式、文化传统等有关。

There exist two strategies in the conceptualization of time： the objected- oriented schema（the time- moving schema）and the subjectedoriented schema（the ego- moving schema）. In Chinese the former is used more frequently while in English the latter is preferred. The article, profiled on cognitive metaphor theory and based on collection and synthesis of temporal metaphor expressions in both languages on a large scale, synchronically attempts to delve into their similarities and discrepancies, as well as the effect exerted by human thought and cultural factors influencing temporal expressions and interpretation.
