十一届三中全会后,党的统战工作进入了一个新的历史时期。十一届六中全会以后,习仲勋主要分管党的统战工作。他通过重新确立统战的指导思想、平反重大冤假错案和落实党的统战政策,实现了统战工作的拨乱反正;通过明确统战工作的新课题,解决亟待处理的重大问题,并采取人才培养、机构设置、学术研究等措施,开创了统战工作的新局面;通过为新时期统战工作进行历史定位、方法论指导和预见性战略部署,推动了统战工作的理论创新。

After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Party Committee, United Fronted Work of the Party has entered a new historical period. After the Sixth Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Party Committee, Xi Zhongxun was mainly in charge of the United Front Work of the Party. To set things right, he reestablished the guiding ideology, redressed the significant unjust, feigned and wrong eases and implemented the United Front Policy. To create a new situation, he proposed new tasks of the United Front Work, solved important burning questions and took measures like training of the talents, the establishment of relevant organs and academic researches. To propel theory innovation, he fixed a new position for the United Front Work in the new period, provided it with the guide of correct way and prophetically strategic deployment.
