李商隐学仙玉阳的经历,使其对道教、神仙的题材与故事非常熟稔,而且也加深了对道术、神仙的认识,培养了丰富的艺术想象力。而坎坷的遭际、细腻丰富的情感,使其将不易明言的人生感受、体认,借助游仙的方式来抒写,且绾合身世经历,使得游仙与诗人的身世融合为一,描述世事,曲折隐微,微婉顿挫,呈现出亦真亦幻的特色,常常难以索解。在对游仙诗的借镜学习中,李商隐比较多地汲取了郭璞的抒写方式并加以创造,独具一格。
