The Woman Warrior and Disappearing Moon Café,both written by Chinese American/Canadian women writers, fall into the category of New Gothic. They adopt traditional Gothic vocabulary such as mad woman, family secret and ghost, and reform the genre of Gothic to address the issues of trauma, identity, history, ethnicity and gender.Chinese as well as women were always silenced and marginalized groups in the history of North America.Consequently,Chinese American Women are confronted with and traumatized by double discriminations:one is racial discrimination from the dominant white, and the other from the patriarchy within the minority group. As minority women writers, both Sky Lee and Maxine Hong Kingston chose Gothic as their narrative form to disclose family secrets, whereby they have managed to recover from trauma and construct their self-identity.
