Identity Reorientation of Chinese American Literature——From the Perspective of American Cultural Tradition

文化批评是美国华裔文学研究中常用的方法,但这一方法将华裔文学固定在"他者"的位置上,片面强调其与美国主流文学的差异性而导致了研究中的误区和偏颇。分析华裔文学中的成长主题、自传体裁、应许地思想等,可以见出华裔文学与美国文学传统有着内在的紧密联系,是美国文学传统的一部分,只有明确了这一点,才能对华裔文学的文化身份得出准确的理解和认识。

Cultural criticism is the common approach to the study of Chinese American literature, however, it leads to fixing the identity of Chinese American literature in the position of ＂the other＂ , laying too much emphasis on the differences between Chinese American literature and the mainstream American literature, and eventually resulting in the misunderstanding and bias in its study. By analyzing the theme of growth, writing style of autobiography and the idea of promised land in Chinese American literature, we can see that Chinese American literature is intrinsically linked closely with the tradition of American liter- ature, which is actually part of the American literature, it can be seen that they are closely related with each other. Only after getting a better and clearer understanding of it, can the identity of Chinese American literature be established.
