The Moral Objection of Modernity:On German Nihilism by Strauss

虚无主义本质上是一种现代现象;从历史上看,它跟德国近、现代思想的发展有着千丝万缕的联系,以致于政治哲学家施特劳斯将虚无主义特别看作是一种德国的现象。第二次世界大战期间,施特劳斯在美国以"德意志虚无主义"为题做了一场公开演讲。本文试图顺着施特劳斯的论述对德国虚无主义作一些概括性的思考,尤其关注德国传统对西方现代文明的思想反应。希望由此为进一步理解当代虚无主义和现代性问题提供一个视角,同时也奢望能在一定程度上有助于加深对施特劳斯本人哲学和政治立场的理解。

Nihilism is a modem phenomenon in nature. According to the history, it has had an entangled relationship with the development of modern German thoughts,so Strauss, a polities philosopher,considered that nihilism is a German phenomenon. During World War II, Strauss made a public lecture entitled ＂German Nihilism＂ in America. This treatise＇s attempts are to outline the author＇s thinking on German nihilism in the light of Strauss＂ expound and especially to concentrate on German traditional thoughts＂ reaction to the modem civilization from the West, hoping to offer a potty angle from which a further elucidation about the contemporary nihilism and modernity can be nmde. Meanwhile, within the author＇s extravagant hopes, it can help to deepen people＇s understanding of Strauss＂ phi- losophy and political standpoint.
