The Poetry Translator Should Capture the Emotion of the Original Writer——An Interview with Cao Minglun,the translator of Robert Frost:Collected Poems,Prose and Plays

本文就弗罗斯特诗歌在中国的翻译请教翻译家曹明伦教授,在他回顾历史的过程中,从弗罗斯特诗歌翻译个案到翻译研究中的诸多问题,如诗歌翻译中的韵式、复译、翻译研究中的翻译目的、译者身份等,他都阐发了自己独到的见解,同时辅以大量切身翻译实践,理论与实践相映成趣,为诗歌翻译与翻译研究提供了启示和借鉴。

This paper records an interview with Prof. Cao Minglun, the translator of Robert Frost： Collected Poems, Prose and Plays. During the interview Cao gives an oral history about his translation experience and insightful opinions from the translation case of Robert Frost to various issues of poem translation and Translation Studies, such as the rhyme arrangement, re-translation and translation purpose, identity of translator, etc. Also he combines his resourceful translation practices with the theoretical elaboration in the process of interviewing. This paper undoubtedly will provide enlightenment for poetry translation and Translation Studies.
