Feminist Literary Criticism and the Madwoman in the Attic: Women Writers and the Nineteen-century Literature Imagination

In this paper, we summarized the impact of the theory of feminist literary criticism proposed by Virginia Woolf and the French Simon de Beauvoir on feminist literary criticism. Through describing the three stages development of the western feminist divided by Elaine Showalter, we analyzed the feminist thought and its theory of literary criticism of the madwoman in the attic： women writers and literary imagination of the nineteenth century.
